Stant 27266 Thermostat Seal for Ford Mustang II (1974–1978)
1974–1978
Ford built cars, pickups, and vans for every kind of driver, and many Ford engine families stayed in production for years, which is why one small part can show up across a long list of models. On the Ford side, Stant's catalog lists the 27266 for 3 models from 1974 to 1979.
This page is for one model only: the Ford Mustang II. It isn't a wall of every car ever made, just yours.
Model this seal fits
- Ford Mustang II (1974–1978)
- V-6 171 cu in: 1974–1978
Stant's catalog also lists the Stant 27165 thermostat gasket for this same engine and years. Check your old parts to see whether your housing takes the seal, the gasket, or both.
Help choosing the right seal
The 27266 is a Stant thermostat seal, a molded rubber ring that seals the thermostat or the water outlet (thermostat housing) instead of a flat paper gasket. Its Gates equivalent, Gates 33606, is described as a square-cut seal, about 1.81 in. inside diameter × 2.094 in. outside diameter × 0.094 in. thick. Stant's own description of these seals: no sealer or RTV is needed for a leak-proof seal, and each one is shaped for its application. Stant made a different seal for each housing design, and Don stocks several of them, so check which number your car calls for.
Before you order, match three things: your year, your model, and your engine. Catalogs list fitment by vehicle, but some engines had more than one thermostat housing design over the years. If your old seal is still in hand, compare its size and shape, or just ask Don and Kathy. They'll help you sort it out.
Real people behind the parts
In their early web days, Don and Kathy built separate "garages" online, one for Mustangs, one for Chevettes, and one for Corvettes, so that every owner could find their own corner. These pages carry on that idea: every model gets its own page.
These seals come from Don's own shelves.
Price is $9.95 plus $3.00 for shipping.
Don and Kathy offer a fair deal for this. Buying for a club, a shop, or a whole fleet of project cars? Even better.
